Due Diligence Checks

Control Risks Screening offers a higher and more detailed level screening for particular individuals that would be carried out by the Corporate Investigations Department of Control Risks Group, which goes into greater exploratory detail than the standard screening process. Control Risks’ overall aim is to identify risks or liabilities that may not be detected by a normal Executive Search referencing exercise.  The track record, reputation and perceived integrity of the subject is relevant in two ways: firstly, compiling a more detailed picture of the subject supplies the client with essential information on the integrity and ability of an individual who will, to an extent, be part of the public, professional face of the client’s company and whose reputation will reflect directly on the reputation of the company; secondly, this exercise also serves to uncover the existence of any conflicts of interest and undisclosed liabilities.  The investigative due diligence process can be broken down into three main elements:

1.  Profiling of the subject through exhaustive public record research locally and/or other jurisdictions where the individual has lived or worked

2.  Overt interviews into the subject’s reputation and perceived integrity with either ‘named’ referees supplied by the subject, sources identified by Control Risks or a combination of both

3.  Discreet source enquiries into the subject’s reputation and perceived integrity with sources identified by Control Risks who have knowledge of the subject in a professional capacity

These three phases can either be conducted separately or combined. It is also possible to commission a phase one (public record research) and review the results before committing to phases two or three. In most cases however, it will be necessary to conduct a phase one if either overt interviews or discreet source enquiries are to be considered.

NHS Employment Checks Standard

Control Risks Screening provides NHS clients who must comply with the Employment Checks Standards a comprehensive range of employee screening services which are compliant with the new standards launched on the 1st April 2008.  Services include registration and education verification, employment history checks, and criminal records for UK and international candidates.  In addition, Control Risks Screening offers a more in-depth level of screening for Executives and other senior appointments. This level of screening includes credit checks, directorships, adverse media research, civil litigation and extended blacklist checks on top of the standard NHS screening package. Risk Scoring

Risk Scoring permits the use of the client’s evaluation or disposition criteria in the Control Risks Screening process. As each search is completed, the results are evaluated against the client’s criteria. Once the final search component is completed and the report compiled, an overall disposition will be generated based upon generalised criteria; meets hiring criteria (“green”); does not meet hiring criteria (“red”); and requires review (“yellow”).  The benefits of outsourcing the Risk Scoring process would be to improve the timeliness of client's decision-making process and ensure consistency of hiring practices. If Control Risks Screening were to manage the process of information analysis, this would free up human resources/recruiting personnel to focus on what they do best in the human capital acquisition process.

Sentry - Contingent Worker Screening

By definition, a “sentry” is a guard who is posted to prevent the passage of unauthorised persons. This is a perfect metaphor for Control Risks Screening’s service. It is in essence a guard that ensures all subcontractors, vendors, and temporary employees have been screened to the same standards as your corporate employees before arriving at your workplace.  Many businesses are investing resources to develop, manage, and monitor effective employment screening programs. However, those same organisations have no structured process to apply the same level of scrutiny to subcontractors, vendors, and temporary employees. Sentry was developed to deal with potential security issues and risk posed by such a situation.  The Sentry program is a turn-key solution that protects the current efforts of a client's screening program while bringing a greater sense of security to the workplace through consistent screening of all who work in the company. It is simple, it is secure, and it is provided at no cost to the client. The temporary staffing agencies and other contract labour vendors currently serving the client receive the same favourable pricing and service extended to the client to provide screening to each subcontractor, vendor, and temporary employee who serves the client. Control Risks Screening will perform the searches determined by the client to ensure compliance to the client's requirements.

Vendor Integrity Screening

Control Risks Screening has developed a vendor screening service designed to provide procurement managers and compliance officers with short, pertinent, efficiently and economically produced reports on prospective vendors. Our dedicated team of specialists draws on multiple resources of public domain information to check the background of potential vendors. The availability of public domain information, particularly civil and criminal records, varies per jurisdiction. However, a vendor screening report would typically comprise the following checks on the corporate entity and its principal officers: registration details and incorporation status; basic share capital structure; regulatory check; civil litigation (including judgments and bankruptcy orders); criminal records; adverse media coverage; and international sanctions lists.
